Jamaican Jerk Chicken Thighs

Chicken thighs are so impeccable. If I had to rank pieces of chicken from worst to best, I would have to go with the breast, the legs, the thighs, and the wings.

I can’t deny that chicken wings are my favorite part of the chicken. In fact, wings are my second favorite food next to pizza.

Even with all that being said, I love me some chicken thighs. Especially Jamaican jerk chicken thighs.

With all that jerk seasoning marinated in those juicy, delicious chicken thighs, I can’t help but love this baked jerk chicken thigh recipe.

Creating The Baked Jerk Chicken Thighs Recipe

As a child, I did not grow up eating Jamaican cuisine. In fact, I have not even tasted any Caribbean food during my childhood.

I did not meet anybody with a Caribbean background until I moved out of my hometown.

As you can imagine, being isolated in a small town can leave you ignorant about other cultures outside your own.

Thank goodness, I am an open-minded person because, without that open-mindedness, I would not be able to expand my horizon to different cultures.

Furthermore, one of those cultures derives from the Caribbean. Caribbean culture is great, and the food is to die for.

Caribbean food is delicious, and it should not come as a surprise that I made this homemade jerk sauce recipe.

Also, this jerk sauce goes perfect with chicken thighs. Furthermore, combining that recipe with chicken thighs is what creates the baked jerk chicken thighs recipe.

The Research

Before making the homemade Jamaican jerk seasoning recipe that will go on our chicken thighs, I had to do some research.

The first thing that I decided to do was to go to multiple Jamaican joints so that I can somewhat know what great jerk food tastes like.

Moreover, I can vouch that the worst the customer service is, the better the food is. Call me a myth buster because this myth is the truth.

Jamaican joints are the only places that you can go, and the worse the customer service is, the higher the chances that you will come back.

The next phase in my research was to look up as many jerk recipes as I could using Google and YouTube.

Interestingly enough, the recipes were wildly different from each other, but that to be expected, even though some of you all steal recipes, but that is another conversation for another day.

One of the few similarities the recipes had with each other is that they all use allspice berries.

Furthermore, they would either use scotch bonnet peppers or habanero peppers, and they would use browning or anything else that will give the jerk that luscious brown color.

Creating this homemade Jamaican jerk seasoning recipe to go with these chicken thighs, I can honestly say it took me multiple attempts to get this recipe right.

Correspondingly, if you do not get it right the first time, dust yourself off and try again. This way of thinking is what assisted in creating some great Jamaican jerk chicken thighs.

Jerk Seasonings 3 of 4

What Is Jerk Sauce

This is a Caribbean seasoning that is used for your food just like any other sauce or seasoning. When dealing with jerk sauce, I recommend letting the sauce marinate whatever meat you are using it with.

This process may take a couple of hours, or it may be an overnight process. This will depend on whoever is cooking the jerk dish. If you are not starving like Marvin, then I recommend letting the meat marinate overnight.

The longer the meat marinates in the jerk sauce, the better the food will come out. Especially if you are making Jamaican jerk chicken thighs.

What Are Jamaican Jerk Chicken Thighs Made Of?

Well, of course, it is made out of chicken. I got that smart pants, but what is the jerk made out of?

The ingredients in jerk sauce usually vary depending on who made the recipe.

On the contrary, with different homemade Jamaican jerk sauce recipes, there are still about three ingredients that you will see in the recipe.

So, now the billion-dollar question is what are the three main components in jerk? Those three components would consist of scotch bonnet peppers, allspice berries, and thyme.

To be honest, the scotch bonnet peppers and the allspice berries are more essential to a good jerk sauce recipe than thyme is. They’re all important nonetheless.

Also, it is difficult to get your hands on some scotch bonnet peppers, so a good substitute for that is habanero peppers.
