To Understand The French 77 Drink Recipe.
The French 77 drink recipe is a spinoff of the French 75 cocktail. Also, this is true with the French 76 beverage.
Furthermore, to understand the history of 77 you will need to understand the history of 75.
This drink goes all the way back to World War I, dating back to 1915. Apparently, this lemon juice and champagne-based beverage was created in a bar located in Paris.
This is before elderflower liqueur was introduced to the drink. So, no elderflower and champagne as yet.
The owner, who name is Harry MacElhone must have had an obsession with New York because the bar’s name is the New York Bar.
Okay, “obsession” may be a bit of an exaggeration, but clearly, he had some type of interest in New York City.
Ironically enough, he was not from Paris or New York. Harry was born and raised in Dundee Scotland.
When he created the original French 75 recipe, he gave the drink its name because of the feeling you get when you drink it.
Based on his description, it feels like you get hit by a 75 mm gun with every sip.
The French 77 drink recipe may not be as impactful to your body since the gin is replaced with elderflower liqueur. Moreover, elderflower liqueur is a lot weaker than gin.
Also, this logic is similar to the French 76 cocktail. The reasoning is the same. Elderflower liqueur is weaker than vodka.
If you want to have a French seventy without the shotgun effect, then this drink is for you.
