There’s nothing like a tasty hamburger after a long day of being hungry. No wonder these fast food places are people’s favorite burger joints.
However, when I want a burger, I aim to find the best burger in my surrounding area. Some of these burger joints are good for convenience, but they don’t cut the mustard in taste.
Do you see what I did there with the “mustard” pun?
Maybe these fast food joints should “ketchup” with the competition. I’m here all night, folks!
Nevertheless, all burger jokes aside, burgers are great. I especially love my burger with some crispy bacon, raw onions, and pickled jalapeños!
On The Hunt For The Best Burger
I am from a small town where the only burger joints available were the popular fast-food restaurants selling burgers on the dollar menu.
Therefore, ever since I moved to the city, I wanted to see what type of hamburgers were available for my consumption.
Now while nothing beats a dollar menu, especially when you are short on cash, sometimes you just want to try something different to enlighten your taste buds.
Thus, I went out searching for the burger that would do just that! Unfortunately, I was always met with disappointment. Maybe my standards were too high.
Either way, something had to change because my taste buds nor my wallet could take this pain anymore.
Making My Own Homemade Burgers
At some point, I decided to make my own homemade burgers. If I want to add raw onions to my homemade burger, then I can do that.
If I want my homemade burger to be a little spicy, then I can add sliced pickled jalapeños to it.
I’m doing all of this while staying in the comfort of my home. The best part is that I’m saving money by not spending it on a burger joint, killing two birds with one stone.
Speaking of birds, since I’m the chef I can use any ground meat I want and that includes ground turkey.
What Goes Well With Turkey Burgers?
When I make a hamburger, I usually use either ground beef or ground turkey. If you decide to make your hamburgers with ground turkey, my suggestion of ingredients would be jalapeños, onions, tomatoes, cheese, lettuce, etc.
Moreover, can’t forget the sauce to be the boss. Okay, that sounded cringy, but you’re not here for my rhyme schemes, therefore I digress.
What Do You Season Burgers With? When Should You Season Burgers?
When it comes to making the best burgers, I am a firm believer that less is more. I only use salt and black pepper to season my burgers unless I’m making a specific burger.
For instance, if I was making a garlic burger, I would add garlic powder to the burger. The best time to season your burger may vary depending on whom you ask.
Some people will season their patties when the meat is done cooking. I, on the other hand, like to season the meat while it is raw then cook the burger patty afterward.
How Do You Assemble A Burger?
As basic as it may sound to assemble a burger, I do feel like mastering this makes a difference. That’s the difference between the best burgers and hamburgers from any other burger joint.
I always put my sliced cheese on top of the patty so that while the patty is cooking, the cheese can melt over it.
I add the other ingredients, like my onions and pickled jalapeños, next and place them on top of the patty so that all the ingredients don’t fall out.
If I am using sauce, then I would put the sauce anywhere other than on the bread.
The reason for this is that if you love a lot of sauce on your burger, then having the sauce on the bread will make the bread soggy.
How Do You Make The Best Burger?
The best burger is subjective, so everybody’s opinion will differ. The meat has to be seasoned well without too much going on.
By default, the best burger to me would be a burger with crispy bacon, cheese that is melted, and fresh ingredients like jalapeños, onions, etc.
Aside from the lettuce, I like ingredients like pickled jalapeños, tomatoes, mushrooms, etc. to be cooked.
With raw onions, cooked or uncooked, is okay either way.
I love a soft bun that is a little crispy, so it is necessary that the buns are cooked to some degree.
A sauce isn’t necessary, but if it is on the burger, then that is a bonus.

Making Some Crispy Bacon
Put the bacon in your unheated skillet and cook for 10-14 minutes on medium heat. The cooking time will vary base on how crispy you desire your bacon to be. Make sure to turn the bacon frequently.
Prepare The Burger Patties
While the bacon is cooking, put your ground meat in a mixing bowl and add salt and black pepper. After you season your meat, form 4 burger patties.
Cooking The Burger Patties
Once your crispy bacon is ready, put it to the side and add your burger patties to the skillet.
Cook the patties for 5 minutes on medium heat, then flip the patties over. Add your sliced cheese and cook for 5 more minutes.
If you want your cheese to melt real good, then put a lid/cover over your skillet.
The number of patties you can cook at once will depend on the size of the skillet.
Cooking The Raw Onions And Pickled Jalapeños
Remove your cooked burger patties from the skillet and add the raw onions and sliced pickled jalapeños, make sure the onion is chopped up.
At this point, there will be a substantial amount of oil from the crispy bacon and burger patties. If there is too much oil for your liking, simply remove some oil. Cook chopped raw onions and sliced pickled jalapeños for 3 minutes.
Toasting The Bread In A Skillet
When you are ready to cook the bread if you haven’t already removed the oil from the skillet until you have about 2 teaspoons of it left.
The reason you want to do this is that too much oil will make the bread soggy. Put the flat side of the bun on the skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes, or until the bread is cooked as desired.
The amount of bread you can cook at once will depend on the size of the skillet.
You Have A Bun In The Oven
If you prefer, you can cook the buns in the oven instead of in a skillet. However, ensure the oven is preheated at 400 degrees.
When the oven is ready, put the bread on a cookie sheet and cook for 2 minutes with the inside of the bun facing down.
If you don’t want to dirty up your cookie sheet, simply use foil. Before I put my buns in the oven, I like to use a little oil so that the buns can stay soft while cooking.
Assemble The Burger
Now that everything is ready, put the burger together, and now you can eat! If you want to make this recipe with a grill, the instructions are provided below.
Making Your Burgers On The Grill
The first thing you will do is put your ground meat in a mixing bowl and add salt and black pepper. While you are doing this, make sure that your grill is heating up. After you season your meat, form 4 burger patties.
Cooking The Burger Patties
Once the grill is heated up, put the patties on the grill and let them cook for 4 minutes.
Just an FYI, you probably will only be able to cook two patties at a time, but that may vary depending on the size of your grill.
After 4 minutes, add the American sliced cheese to your patties and let it cook for 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
Grilling Up Some Bacon
The bacon is the next thing you are cooking and that will be on the grill for 8 minutes. While that is cooking, you can start chopping your onions.
More Grilling To Do
The next thing you are cooking after the bacon is the chopped raw onions and sliced pickled jalapeños for 2 minutes.
I Don’t Want None Unless You Got Buns
The last thing you need to cook is buns. Inside grills are designed to catch the grease that comes out of whatever you are cooking.
I like to brush that grease over the buns, but I make sure that I don’t overdo it because I don’t want my bread to be soggy.
Let the buns cook for 30 seconds, but try not to mush your buns with the top of the grill.
After 30 seconds, raise the top of the grill so that only the flat side of the bun is cooking.
At that point, let the bun cook for another 30 seconds.
Assemble The Burger
Now that everything is ready, put your jalapeño & onion crispy bacon double cheeseburger together and enjoy
