The Pan-Seared Flat Iron Steak Recipe Almost Did Not Happen
The love for sharing great recipes, that I created, is immense within me. Also, I love being transparent with you all, and for that reason, I am here to tell you all that creating recipes does not always come easy.
The first time I made steak, I used an inside grill. The steak was not too bad, but there was room for improvement. Unfortunately, my steak-making abilities were not consistent.
So, believe me when I tell you that I had made some steaks that I am not too proud of. Also, I doers not help that I was not open-minded to eating any steak that was not well done.
Granted, I am still not eating any rare steak, but medium-well got me never want to eat a well done steak ever again.

Valentine’s Day is the worst day when you are making not-so-tasty steaks. Making steak and shrimp for babe, and the food comes out bad, is a humbling experience.
The steak and shrimp were too salty, the steak was overcooked and tough, and overall I was doing too much with the meal without using the proper techniques.
That day was years before I made this pan-seared flat iron steak recipe, which is absolutely great, but for a while, I figured that making steaks just was not for me.

Mind you, at this point, have years of experience in cooking since I last made a steak. Plus, I was willing to make a steak that was not well done.

Pan-Seared Flat Iron Steak On A Cast Iron
There are multiple ways you can cook a steak. You can grill it, sauté it, smoke it, etc. but when the steak is pan-seared in a cast iron skillet it just hit differently.
Whether you are trying to make a rare steak, a well-done steak, even a burnt steak which I do not recommend making, cooking the steak in a cast iron skillet is going to give you some great results.
The reason for this is that cast iron distributes heat evenly throughout the skillet.
Also, the cast iron skillet retains heat at a good rate. This is important for developing that crust that everybody loves while you are making the pan-seared flat iron steak recipe.
If you have not tried the crust on your steak, then I recommend tasting it. It will change your life forever for the better.
The only downside is that with this pan-seared flat iron steak recipe, your steak will be addicting. This may cause you some problems if you are trying to lose weight.

The difference between medium-rare and rare steak is the time it takes to cook the steak. This will lead to the steaks having different temperatures once the steak is done cooking.
The steaks are medium-rare when it is 130° to 135 °F. You can achieve a medium-rare steak by cooking each side for 2 minutes.
For your rare steak, you need to cook each side for one minute and 30 seconds.
How To Cook Flat Iron Steak
To comprehend how to cook a flat iron steak, you have to ask the question. “What is flat iron steak?” Flat iron steak is a cut of a steer that at one point was deemed to be unfit to be considered steak.

- .88-1Lb Ribeye Steak
- 1 Tsp Salt
- 4 Tbsp Unsalted Butter (1/2 Stick)
- 1 Tsp Black Pepper
- 1/4 Tsp Red Crushed Pepper Flakes
- 2 Fresh Rosemary
- 1/4 Tsp Dried Thyme Or 1 Fresh Thyme
- 2 Minced Garlic Cloves
- 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
Equipment
- Cast Iron Skillet
- Tongs
- Metal Spoon
- Stovetop
- Cutting Board
- Knife
Making The Steak
Let your steak sit out until it is room temperature. This will help you get that delicious, golden crust.
Next, season the steak with salt and black pepper. Ensure that the steak is all the way covered with the seasoning.
We Are Not Making A Rare Steak
Add the oil to the cast iron skillet, and heat it up at the highest temperature that you can for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, add the steak to the cast iron skillet.
You should hear a loud sizzling noise as soon as you put the steak in the cast iron skillet.
Cook the steak for 3 minutes. Flip the steak over, and cook for one minute. After that, cook each side for 30 seconds, which will be a total of 2 minutes.
Add The Rest Of The Ingredients
Once those sides are done, put the steak back on the side that was only cooked for 1 minute. Add the unsalted butter, rosemary, thyme, garlic, and red crushed pepper flake to the cast iron skillet.
The steak will now cook for 2 minutes. During that 2 minutes, baste the steak frequently. When I baste my steaks, I keep going until the 2 minutes are up.
Remove the steak from the cast iron skillet, and let it rest for at least 10 minutes.

Cut your steak and put some leftover butter sauce on your steak and enjoy!
