Stewed Chicken And Vegetables, Really That Good?

A long time ago, if you were to ask me about stewed chicken I would assume you were talking about chicken in a stew, which would be basically chicken noodle soup.

If that conversation had continued, I would have to ask you did you cook cornbread to go with your chicken stew.

Fast-forward to the present. I know better now, so something like that would not come out of my mouth.

Additionally, I will go as far as saying that stewed chicken is better than any other chicken stew that you can dream of.

To my knowledge, stewing food is not an American thing, which explains my initial ignorance.

Also, it does not help that I am from a small town where diversity is limited.

Although this was a bit of a culture shock, I am always down to try new foods, especially when those foods turn out to be delicious.

Real Onion And Garlic

Whether it is stewed chicken or stewed onions, the process of stewing your food will help all the flavors blend to make a flavorful meal.

When I stew my food, I try to use the actual vegetables versus the version of the vegetable that is a seasoning in a bottle.

For example, this recipe uses onion and garlic instead of garlic powder and onion powder.

This is where the stewed onion and whole garlic cloves come into the picture.

This recipe also uses thyme and even using real thyme is great, you can still use the thyme seasoning and the results will be the same.

In fact, outside the stewed onion and whole garlic clove, all the other ingredients are seasoning.

Some of those seasonings do not even start as a vegetable, but hey, if you can get the source of those seasonings, then more power to you.

How Do I Prepare Chicken Thighs For Cooking?

Like any part of the chicken, it is recommended to clean the chicken. You can do that with lime juice, lemon juice, or vinegar.

At this point, you will have the option to remove the skin if you choose to do so. After the chicken is clean, you can season the chicken thighs.

Now, you are ready to cook up some stewed chicken.

What Veggies Go Well With Stewed Chicken?

When I think of vegetables that go well with Chicken I think of onion and garlic, mushrooms, broccoli, lettuce, etc.

In fact, we would have a shorter list discussing vegetables that do not go well with chicken.

By the way, I do not know any vegetable that does not go well with chicken.

How Long Do You Simmer Stewed Chicken Thighs?

For each recipe, the time will vary. For the stewed chicken and vegetable recipe, you will stew the chicken thighs for a little over an hour.

This chicken will cook right alongside the stewed onions.

What Is A Whole Clove Of Garlic?

What is really a whole clove of garlic? Well, I can tell you what a clove of garlic is not.

When you buy garlic, typically it is shaped like an odd light bulb.

You know, one of the light bulbs that go out quick. It has a unique shape, so you buy them.

Enough about oddly-shaped light bulbs. When you buy the garlic that way, that is not a clove.

In fact, that is a bunch of cloves clustered together, forming what is called a head or a knob.

When you pull an individual part of the head or knob off, that is what we call a whole clove of garlic.

Knowing this is great because you will be using whole garlic cloves for this stewed chicken and vegetable recipe.

Is It Bad To Eat A Whole Clove Of Garlic?

If you eat a whole garlic clove, do not worry, unless you are allergic to garlic.

For the people who are not allergic to garlic, the only thing you may have to be mindful of is talking too close to people.

That garlic breath is going to have you banned from events.

You will be that person that people will practice social distancing with, but 6 feet may not be enough because garlic is a powerful herb. I digress.

If you prefer, you can always cook the whole garlic cloves. Taste-wise, I recommend cooking your garlic.

However, if you eat the garlic raw, you can intake more of the beneficial nutrients that garlic has to offer. Below are a few ways garlic can be beneficial to you.

  • Garlic has tons of nutritional value, yet the calories are low, which can assist with weight loss.
  • Garlic has components that can fight off sicknesses, such as the common cold, Alzheimer’s disease, and dementia. The reason for this is that garlic boosts the immune system, and garlic also contains antioxidants. The antioxidants can reduce oxidative stress, which will also prevent any additional contribution to one’s aging process.
  • Blood pressure can be reduced by eating garlic. If you are eating garlic, for this reason, you should still be careful with your sodium intake.
  • Garlic can help you maintain healthy cholesterol levels, Which possibly can prevent you from getting a heat-related illness.

Although raw whole garlic cloves may be healthier to eat, we will be cooking our garlic cloves for the stewed chicken and vegetable recipe.
